Southern Lions u16 vs Rockingham
On Saturday 29 May the Southern Lions played Rockingham in a tight match with the result decided in the last seconds of the game.
Conor Loveland opened the scoring after pouncing on a loose ball and ran 50m to score. Rockingham replied moments later with a try but were unable to convert. 5 – all was how the score remained until halftime. Rockingham went ahead 12 – 5 shortly after the break, but the Lions replied with converted try by Tyler Boon (12-12). Rockingham then scored and converted going 19 – 12 up. The Lions kept themselves in the game by replying with a Mitchell Stechman try and conversion (19-19). However, with minutes remaining Rockingham scored again, taking a 26 – 19 lead. The Lions were not done, though, and, keeping the ball alive from inside their own half made their way up the field, and after a number of phases, Mitchell Stechman scored in the corner on the stroke of full-time, with the conversion to come. Unfortunately, the ball bounced the wrong way off the cross-bar and the score was 26-24 to Rockingham. The Southern Lions boys must once again be complimented on their never-say-die attitude and their ability to play right to the end – a great team effort.
