Match report for 2nd 4th grade game against Bunbury in 2010 season.

Changes galore for Souths 4ths meant a tough game was to be had against a determined Bunbury outfit who truly were a Barbarian side for the afternoon.

Bunbury started the afternoon brightly and early strong running kept Souths penned in their 22. The normal reliable set piece of the 4ths going astray too often with line out and scrum not firing as usual . Without his normal supply of ball , Captain Carmichael was struggling to put his new look backline on the front foot and had to rely on his educated boot to gain attacking position. Bunbury were hard to break down and took an early lead through a penalty. The untested combo’s throughout the Souths side started to highlight a frailty not seen before by the second stringers and a couple of clear-cut chances went begging. A hash of a penalty run ramming home a side low on confidence. A late penalty restored parity. 3-3 at half-time.

A wild start to the second half was to lead to a flurry of Bunbury scores. Missed tackles on the Bunbury 8 from kick-off saw considerable ground gained and two organised drives later and Souths were a try down. A carbon copy of the earlier kick-off saw the same player charge up field, exposing some poor position. One box kick and a couple of missed tackles later, another Bunbury score followed. Shell-shocked, it was left to Lee Chapman and Carmichael to galvanise their players. After a good spell of possession, more and more ball found its way to dangerous centres Alan Coogan and Wyto Jean who bullocked their way up field. A try against the run of play though saw Bunbury cement the victory. A late try to Jean and an encouraging fight back from Souths came to late leaving the 4ths to rue their lackadaisical attitude pre-game and the players who were unavailable for the day. 10-18 to Bunbury.
