Here goes trying to write something that resembles story writer Sam Nunn.
The game was an emotional roller coaster throughout with the score changing continually with southern lions taking control early before Arks bounced back to bring the scores close together. Lions then scored again but not to be out done Arks scored 2 of there own.
Play moved up and down the field with both teams moving the ball left and right and tries were being scored at both ends. With the end of the game drawing near Arks found themselves leading 45 /38.
Not lying down lions attacked from there own 22 putting Joel Lamatoa away down the left flank only to be caught just short in the corner, then a few rucks later to the delight of Southern Lions supporters, Lions did get the ball over with Joe Ratu scoring. The conversion was missed and with 2 minutes on the clocks lions were down by 2.
From the kick off Lions knew they had to attack and attack they did and from a quick recycle the ball was shifted to star centre Teegan Minkley 90 metres out.
Teegan then started off on amazing run beating defender after defender with great footwork, huge acceleration and a powerful fend. With supporters from both sides screaming Teegan continued to weave his magic bursting up over the 10 metre line then on to the halfway.
By this time the crowd were going mad but not to be out done Teegan stepped pass a couple more defenders before accelerating away down the clubrooms touch line to score a remarkable try and to give lions the lead.
With everyone especially the Lions supporters still going mad Joel Lamatoa calmly converted the try and Lions had won 50/45.
What a game 15 tries scored and Arks certainly contributed and played well but it was Southern Lions day and a great result.
Important in the victory was the teams ability to win good set piece ball for the backs to use, the character and the fight the boys showed and the courage to never give up.
It was a game of rugby that will be remembered for a long time and as the coach I was very proud of there efforts. It is now back to prepare for Wanneroo and the opportunity to continue this fairy tale for another week.
