Unfortunately the side suffered a crucial loss against coastal Cavaliers 18 16 at Rockingham.
The conditions were not great with a huge wind and stormy weather playing a role in how the game could be played.
Playing into a strong wind in the 1st half Lions found themselves down 8 0 at the break by letting Cavaliers in for a try just before the halftime whistle.
Turning with the wind at there back things were positive that we could gain momentum and dominate the 2nd 40. It started well with Lions Nathan Lamatoa kicking a penalty to make the score 8 3.
Needing to claim the kick off and put Cavaliers back inside there own territory was what was required but Lions failed to execute the plan and gave the ball back to Cavaliers. This proved costly has Cavaliers attacked with ball in hand and scored by the posts to extend there lead to 13 3 made 13 6 not long after due to a 2nd penalty goal kicked by Nathan Lamatoa.
After the resumption Lions exit play failed to put Cavaliers under pressure but instead allowed them to couterattack and force a lineout inside Lions half.
From the lineout Cavaliers moved the ball and there centre busted the line to great another try. Down 18 6 Lions reduced it to 18 9 and then scored and converted but it came to late as the referee called time.
The side did get a bonus point but now find themselves having to win 2 of there next 3 games to give them any chance of playing finals rugby in August. The first challenge is Palmyra followed by Arks then UWA all very difficult opposition.
As a team we need to remain positive and everyone needs to pull together so we give ourselves every chance of trying to make it happen.
