The Lions 1sts started slowly in the warm weather but as the sun grew hotter they tore into the opposition and unleashed a storm of pain for Palmyra.
With Souths struggling early, Palmyra took adavantage to jump out to a lead through 2 converted tries, 14-0.
The shocking scoreline gave the Lions the jumpstart they needed.
Two fine tries from hooker Andy Towler and another from full back Dan Gaskell right on half time, both converted by five eight Scott McKay, dragged Souths back into the game.
Encouraging words from coach Chubb produced the desired result in the second half.
Palmyra simply had no answers to the Lions onslaught.
Soon after kick-off, superb defence followed by quick turnover ball created space out wide. The puppet master McKay spun the ball creating space for outside centre Sean Hanlon. The centre spotted a gap, flew past the scrambling defence, weaved inside the full back and gunned it to the try line for a try of the season contender, converted by McKay, 21-14.
The last try was a real team effort. Strong bullocking runs from big boys Cooper and Swinny who finished off with a sublime blind inside pass to Towler created room for McKay. A quick grubber kick had Palmyra under pressure and fast ruck ball was pounced on by scrum half Mike Fiso who dived over from short range, converted by McKay, 28-14.
Lions kept the pressure on and a McKay penalty made the game safe.
The final whistle rescued Palmyra from further punishment and cued the celebrations of the South's supporters. The team bellowed out the team song.
The team can now look forward to a tough Grand Final against Nedlands as they seek to finish of a great season.
Kick-off is 1600hrs at McGillivray Oval.
