Dominant Lions maul the Goats

Southern Lions travelled to Curtin Uni RUFC in this top of the table clash.
Southern Lions were ready from the kick-off and tore into Curtin Uni early on, scoring 4 tries before 20mins had elapsed.
Curtin Uni upped their game from that point and brought the score back to 24-13 early in the second half.
Lions though found their second wind and dominated the rest of game to run out 46-13 winners.
It was another exciting performance from our Champ A team.

Southern Lions coach Brett Fell provided the following summary of the game -

"Southern Lions 1st side made it 8 from 8 with a convincing win 46/13 over Curtin Uni. Played in overcast conditions and a bit of rain the side came out really firing and for the 1st 15 minutes produced their best rugby of the season. Their decision making and accuracy was first class which resulted in a lead of 17 to 0, having scored 3 tries. Unfortunately at this stage the boys released the pressure and allowed Curtin to get a bit of possession and field position. As the game progressed the side was never in danger of defeat and at times managed to produce some real quality rugby but in between times lacked the patience to work for their points and this resulted in too many penalties and poor handling. In saying that though Beau Cassidy produced an excellent performance at 2nd 5/8 where he carried very strongly and was strong in defence. He was supported well by Dane Jobe at the back and captain Greg Jackson. In the forwards Mike Furze was powerful at number 6 and continues to impress and was well supported by Sam Price and Sione Takulua.
Looking ahead this team needs be challenged and put under pressure something they are not getting in this competition at present because without it growth becomes difficult to be assessed. I feel for the boys at the moment but as a group we need to set and put in place some really difficult performance goals that gives them the motivation to strive for."

Congratulations to the coach and players on continuing the great start to the season.
