Southern Lions keep winning streak going

Southern Lions travelled to take on Rockingham RUFC in this Round 11 clash. The teams met in Round 1 and Southern Lions had won convincingly.

Rockingham had been in good form recently and were in 2nd spot, so Lions were expecting a tough game. It didn't turn out that way and Southern Lions dominated from the kick-off.

Southern Lions coach Brett Fell provided the following summary of the game -

"It was 1 versus 2 on Saturday as Southern Lions 1st grade took on Rockingham at Rockingham expecting a tough tussle but again came away with a comfortable win, 55 points to 17. Again the team came out of the gates well and quickly led by 17 points to nil scoring 3 well executed tries before scoring 1 more try before halftime to turn around 26 nil up. The major concern in the first half was the amount of penalties we were giving away allowing Rockingham easy yards and an opportunity to attack. Unfortunately the 2nd half penalty count was high and is an area that needs to be addressed and nipped in the bud quickly. The team still compiled 5 more tries in the 2nd 40 but late in the game allowed Rockingham to cross for 3 of their own which was disappointing. All players contributed to the performance that saw the team score some excellent, team tries that involved good accurate passing and with good support play. Defensively the team worked hard on their line speed in attempting to put Rockingham under real pressure.
The team was well led around the park by 1st 5 Kyle Fell who attacked the line well and used his passing skills to good effect. He was well supported by wingers Joel Lamatoa and Sheldon Willan and the midfield pairing of Beau Cassidy and Greg Jackson. Up front number 6 and player of the day Brad Woodford was dominant in his ball carry and ruck work and was well supported by number 8 Craig Atthis, and number 7 Sam Price. Overall a good result but certainly some areas that need a bit of attention."
