Coach Brett Fell report -
A great way to finish the season was what occurred last Saturday with the 1st grade side claiming the Championship with a 44 15 win over Mandurah and completing a season of 20 wins from 20 games, a very special achievement.
Starting strongly, the team quickly jumped out to a 15 to 0 lead, with tries to Greg Jackson, Dane Jobe and Sheldon Willan. At this time the team was playing with real good accuracy, which allowed for the team to hold on to the ball and keep putting Mandurah under pressure.
Sam Price (playing his last game before departing over seas) was everywhere in attack and defence causing Mandurah all sorts of problems.
The forwards were delivering quick ball giving the backs real opportunities to show their skills.
Turning around at 25 3 up the team was determined to keep playing attacking rugby and soon were rewarded with a try to Joel Lamatoa who showed great speed and footwork in a 40 metre burst to the line.
It was at this time Mandurah decided to throw caution to the wind and run from everywhere and had the team for the 1st time in the match under some real pressure which resulted in them scoring 2 tries bringing the score to 32 to 15 with 20mins to go.
Under pressure the team needed to to regroup, get their hands on the ball and go back to our processes to regain control.
That they did, which resulted in Joel Lamatoa scoring his 2nd try and then number 6 Mike Furze finished the scoring with a try of his own.
Great celebration was displayed at the final whistle and the boys knew they had achieved something special.
On top of the B1s winning their final the year could not have been much better.
Thanks goes out to all our supporters who traveled down and helped us over the line.
