The U16 Blue team took on a confident Joondalup on the weekend and found themselves in an unfamiliar position - 10 points down after the first 15 minutes. They clawed their way back to 10 all by half-time with two great tries down the side-line by Torben Sherry.
The second half looked to be a repeat of the first when Joondalup scored its third try soon after the restart, but the Blues held their nerve and took advantage of a penalty in Joondalup's half to close the gap to 2 points. A second penalty to Alex Tuvik put the Blues in front for the first time in the match. With 10 minutes to go Torben Sherry ran in his third try down the wing to extend the lead to 6 points. Joondalup worked hard to regain the lead but the Blues defence was too good.
Final score Southern Lions 21 Joondalup 15. The Blues are 16 points clear on the table with only two games to go and are a near certainty to take the minor premiership.
