The long awaited match against the Gold Division’s heavyweight side was the game where it all came together for the Reds. The expected hard game up front came in waves but to no avail, the Reds rucked well, secured the ball, kept the channel clear giving the kicker all the time he needed to place the ball downtown any where he liked.
In attack great ball from the back of the ruck and an unselfish passing saw the ball move from one side of the field to the other opening up the Bayswater defense and giving plenty of scoring opportunities.
With a bench lined with injuries it was appreciated when Joel Lamatoa came up from the 14s to give us one reserve going into the match.
Round five saw the welcome return of Alex and he repaid the opportunity with a solid kicking game, and great pivotal play. Our wingers were keen to exploit every opportunity and with all the backs working well they had plenty of ball.
The forwards kept to the game plan and with Jaeden at hooker our scrum lacked nothing up front and were more than competitive against Bayswater. The loosies supported the backline and looked after Cam and Alex well.
A game that was hard to pick a single outstanding effort as it was a huge team effort, however the ability to protect the channel and look after the number 10,we kept the ball out of our half, a great effort from Viaan.
