Lions B1s continue winning ways

Curtin Uni RUFC travelled to Southern Lions for the Champ B Round 4 clash.

Southern Lions were looking to continue their improvement shown in round 3 against Perth Irish.

Curtin Uni couldn't live with Southern Lions in the first half with Lions running in 3 tries to none. Southern Lions backs and forwards combined well to score some fine tries.
Curtin Uni improved considerably after the break and matched Southern Lions with 2 tries each in the second half.
The final score was 31-12.

Southern Lions team manager Benny Rule provided the following summary of the game -

"It was a great day for rugby with the weather turning it on. The positive vibes were strong amongst the Lions squad chasing down the 4th win in a row for the season.

The Lions forwards came out of the gates firing with Jason King running some straight lines to test the Curtin Uni defence early. With some good forward play in close around the fringes play started to open up. The captain Peter Jackson lead the charge through the fractured Curtin defence making decent meters. It wasn't long until the opposition forward pack decided to take some charges of their own however good tackling/jackaling by Jesse Tooala would soon disrupt this turning over consecutive balls.

The strong standard set by the forwards soon had the backs asking questions of the opposition sending waves of good ball and fast line speed. Konnor Day and Nathan Lamatoa opening up the defence out wide. Kurt Delome also going for a sprint down the side line to score a brilliant try. With plenty of firepower coming off the bench things were looking strong, Murray Jackson laying strong tackles around the ruck and young gun Sheldon showing good skill and pace out wide.

Curtin Uni came back strong in the second half. The Lions lacked some discipline in their own half and let in a couple of soft tries. The Curtin defence also turned up to keep the Lions from running away late on but Lions did secure the bonus point.

Final score - Southern Lions 31 to Curtin Uni 12"

Congratulations to the coaches and players on continuing the great start to the season.
