Red Hot Champ B1s

Arks RUFC travelled to Southern Lions for the Champ B Round 5 clash.

Southern Lions produced their most complete performance of the season so far seeing off Arks in this round 5 clash.

Arks couldn't live with Southern Lions attacking play and Southern Lions ran out 51-12 winners.

Southern Lions Coach Dan King provided the following summary of the game -

"What a game!

I am very proud of the whole squad their attitude during the game and in this week’s training preparation has been great. We knew that Arks would through everything at us and that they did. The first 25 minutes we defended very well as Arks were all over us, running hard and pinning us back with their kicks. I’d say we spent most of the early stages of the first half camped in our 22.

It was very pleasing to see some good defence from the whole team and the Arks boys carried hard into contact and cleaned out pretty well. Our line speed and communication in defence is improving each week and through constant pressure we allowed Arks a try in the corner just before half time we still have lots to work on in this area. Thus said there was heaps of positives and the lads stayed patient and humble and scored some outstanding tries through hard rugby and played the phases well. Konnor Day picked up 3 tries but didn’t pick up a box of beer for the boys so that needs addressing. I thought he and the whole backline had an outstanding game this week with a number of tries coming from our quick, young pacey backs. They really stood up and ran hard all day with strong defence it was a solid effort.

The forwards definitely stood up as well with the line-out going really well. Arks couldn’t live with us and credit to the whole forward group everybody did their job 200% with great lifts, jumps and throwing in it was pleasing to see, an area to work on this week would be the scrum and this will be looked at in training session leading to the Perth Irish game. I’d say that was one of the best forward performances from the boys this season we looked strong and hungry for work and was aggressive when we needed to be, the boys were lead superbly by our Captain PJ and there was some good communication from Irwin as well when PJ was off the field.

It’s hard to list everyone as it was a squad performance but I really want to put a special mention to Trigger at 9 who really took the game to Arks with some aggressive runs and sniping around the ruck, he deserved his tries. Also, Man of the Match Kurt Delome who is improving every week, he was solid under the hall ball also great in counter attacking as well. I thought Arks were quite physical and didn’t give up it was a great game to watch and be involved in and they will be very hard at home when we play them in a few weeks so we need to be ready for that.

This week we look to raise the bar again in the quest for perfection as there is still areas to improve on but the spirit and attitude from the boys is impressive."

Congratulations to the coaches and players on continuing the great start to the season.
