Excellent season continues

Bunbury Barbarians RUFC travelled to take on Southern Lions for the Champ B Round 7 clash.

Southern Lions have been in excellent form to date. They have racked up some exciting wins in the first 6 rounds but realise there is plenty of matches to come in the 18 round season.

Southern Lions were too good for a Bunbury team missing many regulars due to the "Groove in the Move" festival and ran out convincing winners by 12 tries to 1. The final score was 79-5.

Southern Lions co-coach Dan King provided the following summary of the game -

"The coaching team are very happy after this great performance from the lads.

I really thought the backs were outstanding again this week, running some beautiful lines and cuts also hitting holes at pace it was beautiful to see. Jayden had a pretty awesome game and continues to improve week on week, strong running from Hami and Matt as ever kept us going froward all day and both Nathan and Jared were lethal every time they touched the ball. Its was good to see some good breaks from Blake from full back also Konnor who picked up a few scores as well with a fine turn of pace.

Again the forwards were dominate in set piece with the lineout functioning pretty well and some good attacking play from the base of the scrum, Trigger and Slugga got the ball out quick to 10 and that was vital today, we spread Bunbury when we needed too and their fitness just went. Good strong running from all forwards with pick and goes kept the opposition on the back foot, I thought our loose forwards were fantastic today creating problems for them and getting us in great attacking positions all day. The front row and locks went well too with strong running all day and some great offloading keeping the ball alive there is just too many stars today!

Overall we dominated in most areas of the game and the lads hard work over the past weeks in training really paid off. I was quite surprised at the opposition as I had heard so much about them I was expecting a bit more, they didn't have many if any replacements and in the end their fitness went and we just kept cruising through the gears. I am expecting a much harder battle when we play at their ground as they are a force at home and we need to be ready for that.

Big training this week as we have another hard game at Curtin."

Congratulations to the coaches and players on continuing the great start to the season.
The big win was marred by an injury to coach Dan King. We wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.
