Lions too strong for Uni

Southern Lions travelled to take on Curtin Uni RUFC for the Champ B Round 8 clash.

Southern Lions continued their excellent form and were too good for Curtin Uni.
Lions dominated from the start and scored 6 tries to zero. The final score was 40-0.

Southern Lions co-coach Dan King provided the following summary of the game -

"It was pleasing to see the lads really be clinical today and not concede any points, our defence was pretty solid most of the game but they almost scored in the opening minutes when one of their backs made a decent break and was clear, luckily Nathan chased him and brought him down with a lovely tap tackle which saved us. There was a few moments when they challenged us on our line but again some aggressive defence kept them scoreless. We need to work more at training on our defensive systems.

We factored in that it was going to be a wet and miserable day but lucky for us it held off and we could play our game. I am pleased the lads kept their cool as we had 3 changes to the starting line-up and we didn’t warm up or prepare as well as we needed, its showed in the opening moments off the game but we showed our class and pedigree to get the win. We scored some outstanding tries today by TC, Reon, Konnor, Dean and Captain fantastic PJ, also the man of the match and had his best game I have ever seen in a Southern Lions shirt, he was awesome and kept us going forward all day. The scrum was dominant and this gave us a good platform to work from, line-out was OK as well.

The backs were superb again with solid performances by Matt, Nathan and Konnor but they all were fantastic and continue to grow each week. We need to train hard this week and prepare as we have a difficult assignment at home vs Mandurah. It will be a good challenge for both teams and we will be up for it.

Special mention to Jayden and his family who had a bereavement recently in the family and our thoughts are with him and his family."

Congratulations to the coaches and players on continuing the great start to the season.
