Coach Dan King said –

What a game!!!

That was a brutal, intense, nail biting and a hair losing final. I have watched and played a lot of rugby in my life and I will have to rate that as one of the best squad performances ever!

To come to Mandurah and play them in front of their lovely club rooms with large home support and beat them like we just did is an awesome feeling…I’m totally lost for words. We never doubted the guys could do it at all and this win today is for the whole squad that got us here and the club, this win means so much and will go down in history, today legends were born. Our preparation through the whole season was pretty sound but the last two weeks were lifted it to greater heights. The last four training sessions have been my favourite just because we all seemed in tune and focused and knew what we had to do, we had been slowly building for this all season then suddenly it became real, we are in the finals.

Tonight will be an awesome night at the club a lot of hard work and commitment has gone into that win and I congratulate everyone for their part. A big thanks to the players who fronted up each session and game, Danielle/Erin and Scott for looking after the lads all season, Chalky and Jack for running the water on also Sam and Jenn for managing everything today we really are grateful. The last thank you goes to my good friend and co-coach Junior, thanks my bro we did it!

Everyone fronted up today, I said this week that a real superhuman effort was needed for this game and the boys did that and more, their defence and communication was fantastic and every tackle they made counted today we showed them how good we are. PJ captained the boys and lead from the front as he has done all season, he made the big calls when he needed to. The front row and locks were outstanding and Tim Coffey was a pest all game to them, loose forwards made their hits and worked hard, the replacements made a big impact when they came on as well. Special mention to Brad he stole some great ball off them and put his body on the line well done.

Our backs were superb as well, I thought Slugga had his best game in a Lions shirt that I have seen, Nathan kicked and distributed the ball superbly all day. Hami, Rueben ran strong and made some brave tackles, Dan Hutton was solid at 15 and defended strong alongside him Blake made some big hits and runs. Konnor for me had his best performance of the season, I was really impressed with his returns and runs taking us into their half, his line speed in the dying minutes was really good and put pressure on them as they attacked.

It was a squad performance that got that win and I am sorry that I couldn’t get everyone game time, it was a tight game with a really intense tempo. We will all get better and improve and the experience we gained today will help us for future finals situations I am sure.

This win will go in the record books as one of the best finals ever and I am so proud to be a part of this and our club, enjoy the moment lads!!!
