Unlucky loss for Champ B2 side
Bunbury Barbarians RUFC made the long trip to Southern Lions to play the Round 2 Champ B match.
Bunbury had started the season with a strong win against Perth Irish, 27-6. Southern Lions had gone down 7-19 against Arks.
Southern Lions coach Ashley Peel provided the following summary of the game -
"Southern Lions met Bunbury Barbarians at the Lions home grounds for Round 2 of the season. With Bunbury coming off a convincing win in Round 1 the Lions knew that they would be up for a tough battle. From the first whistle this was confirmed with a very physical start to the game and Bunbury scoring the first try early in the first half. The Southern Lions fought back hard maintaining possession clearly causing frustration to Bunbury’s defense.
Dean Griesel, the Southern Lions half back, played an outstanding game and scored the Lions first try with some fast footwork which helped earn him player of the day.
At half time the score was 5 - 19. Southern Lions came out strong in the second half, with Sheldon Willan scoring an early try. Southern Lions looked strong and were making a certain comeback. Unfortunately, 15 minutes in, play was stopped due to injury and later the game was called off. Our thoughts are with the young Southern Lions player and hope he has a speedy recovery.
The final score being Lions 10 def by Bunbury 19.
Now 0 from 2, but with a very strong looking team, the Southern Lions are hungry for their first win in Round 3."
