Round 3 Champ B2 2017 vs Curtin Uni RUFC

Southern Lions made the trip to Curtin Uni RUFC to play the Round 3 Champ B match.

Southern Lions had started the season with 2 losses as had Curtin Uni. Both teams played hard rugby and the match was very even.

Each team scored 3 tries but Curtin Uni proved more accurate with the boot.

The final score was 28-17 with Curtin Uni kicking 2 conv and 3 penalties to Lions 1 conv.

Southern Lions coach Ashley Peel provided the following summary of the game -

"Southern Lions met Curtin Uni at Edinburgh Oval for Round 3 of the season. With both teams yet to have a win, it was bound to be a fierce game from the onset. Both teams were hungry to get a win under their belt.

Southern Lions scored the first try of the game 6 minutes in. Unfortunately, the Lions made some mistakes which allowed Curtin to score two penalties out in front of the posts, giving them momentum to score the next try and convert, followed by yet another penalty kick.

Curtin continued on their scoring streak getting another try and conversion 10 minutes into the second half. Not to be out down, the Lions dug deep and came back to score the next two tries (with one conversion).

With 10 minutes remaining the scores were 17 v 23 and it was game on. The Lions fought hard but it was not to be with Curtin scoring one final try on the final whistle without converting. The final score being Lions 17 def by Curtin 28.

Player of the day was Dean Griesel, the Southern Lions half back, who played yet another outstanding game, scoring two of the three tries."

Commiserations to the coach and players on a very unlucky loss. Their play deserves a win.
