Team continues to fight hard and improve

Southern Lions made the trip to Perth Irish RUFC to play the Round 4 Champ B match.

Southern Lions had started the season with 3 losses as had Curtin Uni but looked forward to the game on the back of improving team play in previous weeks. Both teams played hard rugby and the match was very even. Perth Irish proved a little more clinical and came away with the win.

Perth Irish scored 4 tries to Southern Lions 3 tries and proved more accurate with the boot.

The final score was 27-15 with Perth Irish kicking 2 conv and 1 penalty.

Southern Lions coach Ashley Peel provided the following summary of the game -

"Southern Lions met Perth Irish at Centenary Park for Round 4 of the season. It was quite a hot day for rugby but with both teams winless each side took to the field fired up and ready to take home the win.

Perth Irish came out hard and fast and scored the first try, without converting, 2 minutes in. They followed that up with a second try at the 10 minute mark (with no conversion). Southern Lions refused to give up with veteran and Captain, Mark Carmichael scoring next, the first try for the Lions, 10 minutes before half time (with no conversion). Unfortunately for the Lions, Perth Irish rebutted with another try and conversion in the dying minutes of the first half.

The Lions came out strong in the second half with Sarron Clark scoring (with no conversion) 5 minutes in. Perth Irish scored the next try (with a conversion) and also made the most of a Penalty kick. With 3 minutes remaining the Lions managed another try (with no conversion), by young gun Dean Griesel who is proving his worth on the field.

Credit to Perth Irish on their win (final score 27 v 15). The Lions can hold their heads high with another hard fought game, however there are definitely areas to work on to make our team a cohesive unit rather than 15 individuals out on the field. That being said all players did work hard, with Player of the Day going to Reuben Keepa."

Commiserations to the coach and players on a very unlucky loss. Their play deserves a win.
