Round 8 Champ B2 vs Mandurah RUFC

Mandurah RUFC made the trip to play Southern Lions at Kwinana in the Round 8 Champ B match.

Southern Lions were looking for their third win of the season after a strong away victory at Arks in round 7.

Mandurah had been impressive to date, were second in the table and with only 1 loss to date proved too strong for Lions.

Southern Lions coach Ashley Peel provided the following summary of the game -

Southern Lions B2 vs Mandurah at Thomas Oval

Southern Lions met the Mandurah for the first time this season. The Lions knew they would have their work cut out for them with Mandurah sitting high at second on the ladder.

The Lions started off well with some strong forward work and pod running, controlling the game for most of the first half. Mandurah’s defence however, was too strong and they managed to capitalise on a few handling errors, scoring two converted tries before half time.

Going into the second half Mandurah came out hard and fast proving too good for the Lions. With the Southern Lions never giving up and showing good heart, they managed to score a try in the dying minutes of the game, but going down to a well oiled Mandurah side with final score being Lions 5 v Mandurah 39.
